Mission Crab meat

Crabs, I never liked crabs little monsters that are supposed to be good to eat but usually are more fuss than they are worth. We were commin in from Nootka island and dinner was on the little Spaniards mind. James spotted a crabbing boat and picked up a couple dozen. This is when the fun began. you see, I love kayaking and checking out waterfalls to huck but there's nothing like getting into the environment your in to spice life up a bit.
I don’t know what they do at RED Lobster but we got to chop a bunch of crabs in half and that suited me just fine. Tiffany who is wishy washy about killing anything other than garden vegetables got the first crack. Tiffer is from the city, she loves the outdoors but doesn't really have the interest or the understanding a farm boy has about offing something tasty for dinner. Literally, we made her chop her own crab in half with a machete and god did she hate that. The Owwww’s and the “come on guy’s” It took her about 10 seconds to get up the courage to do the thing in and the crab she got was huge and full of energy. Her tongue was out a little on the left, faced all winced up she leans back and I say, “if you don't hit it dead center it suffers you know” Off came the legs on the right, Tiffany loses the plot the camera goes off. James moves in to finish the beast off, Harris is laughing like a hyena. Jock is holding the door jam up trying not to fall over and James hacks the other set of legs off. We end up having a crab cut into 3 parts instead of two and the shell was still intact. Her reaction was beautiful...

This is where the normal coolie kayaker guy would say, we had 20 footers the whole trip, there was a nice point break and the weather was perfect. Not on a Harris trip, the waves sucked. The weather was nice and the damn seals.......
The waves, the ones way out that were good were taken by the locals. Local seals that is. You all don’t know how big they are until one eyes you down, they own surf break like the locals of Maui. Not all that keen on sharing if you know what I mean. They have this weird look in their eye too They surf well but nasty and aggressive about what waves are whose. I always thought that seals were little cute things with flippers. You know, they do cute little human things with their hands and bark. Not the big one, no ball no bark just nasty scars all over his head. He had teeth and was the size of a whale..... needless to say Harris here decided that being on top of the food chain was cool and that meant staying close to the beach. At least you will wash up on the beach on beach break, stupid seal. Its hard being a tough guy with a seal, you can't out maneuver or run away from it, you have no teeth and can’t hold your breath forever, all in all you lose.

We woke up the next morning with a wrong turn out of our driveway, headed to Ucluelet rather than Tofino took a long old trip around the town deciding that we had seen it before and were quite content to see it again despite it was taking up some time and it wasn’t where we wanted to go. The Waves were small again and we called the trip and the tides were good at Skook so we hopped the ferry from Nanimo to the next island.

The upsides of the trip were I got to see my first whale, big old thing with barnacles and stuff on it. We checked out a bunch of Minke whales too. we hung out with some great locals and got to hang in some hot springs.

Jock has a nasty little motor boat with a big old 4stroke on the back. he wanted to shoot me surfing Skook at night. James backed the boat down on to the Skook wave and jock started taking photos. Every time the strobe light went off I was blinded. At one point I had my eyes shut when the flash went off and I could see nothing but red, the blood in my eyelids lighting up. Not to mention the fact that James (filthy Spaniard) was trying to get close to me. I was being chased all over the place. Great trip, here are some photos to check out.
