Glenwood Springs area, Colorado River, South Canyon Wave
Playspot: USA, Colorado, Glenwood Springs area, Colorado River, South Canyon Wave
What's it like
This wave is best in spring. It is usually good at water levels from 2700 to 4000 cfs. Great surfing, as the wave is usually about 5-7 feet tall. There is a nice pillow on the wave, good enough for some people to throw ends, but it is not retentive. Spins are supereasy though.
Downstream, there is a nice little hole, a nice little squirt spot, and two huge recovery eddies.
How to get there
On the I-70 from Grand Junction, turn off at exit 111 (South Canyon). Follow the paved road and park by the train tracks across the bridge. Not too close, however, because the train comes through several times a day.
