De Beque, Colorado River, Big Sur

Spot: USA, Colorado, De Beque, Colorado River, Big Sur.

We need photos of this spot. The first person to create a gallery with some good pictures will get some cool Playak stickers!

What's it like

This huge wave only appears when the Colorado river is running above 18,000 cfs. This typically happens when there is so much snow melting that most flood gates have to be opened and the river is flushed (this also means that a lot of debris is washing down).

When it gets to this level or above it's one of the best waves in the country. There are stories about people eating lunch on the wave.

A good eddie is available on river left.

As there is a dangerous damn just downstream, do not paddle alone here.

How to get there

On the I70, turn off at the De Beque tunnel and park on the road around the bend. Walk downstream on the bikepath and you'll see the wave.
