Norfolk, River Bure, Horstead Mill
![]() | Playspot, UK, England, Norfolk, Horstead, River Bure, Horestead Mill. |
What's it like
Horstead Mill is an old weir. It's a slow and small 'Park N Play' river wave, just enough for a playboat to surf (or three at a squeeze). Quite often local boaters add boards to the main flow which changes the nice friendly wave into a fun, friendly, play hole. Cartwheels, Splitwheels, Pop Outs, Stern Dips and Loop 'Attempts' are all possible at Horstead Mill (with boards).
The water levels rarely differ much but if the river is ever high the wave becomes flushy and the hole becomes slightly sticky. Finally, there are little or no dangers at Horstead.
How to get there
The nearest city is Norwich so I have linked directions from Norwich to Horstead here.
The put in and take out is the same place. There is parking but it can get crowded
at times so the road is the overflow parking area.

Locals
You will often meet Fishermen at Horstead but they're reasonably friendly and will usually welcome you when their lines gets caught in a tree.
There are also many local swimmers in the summer, they either swim down the main flow or up and down the river. They only really effect the kayakers when they ask to jump off the bridge.
Events
No events have taken place at Horstead yet but there have been talks amongst
locals of a rodeo competition! Will update with more info when I'm updated.
