North Island, Rotorua area, river Kaituna, Kaituna bottom hole

New Zealand, North Island, Rotorua area, river Kaituna, Kaituna bottom hole.

What's it like

Want to play during Christmas? For most of us, it's only half a trip around the world.....

The famous hole itself doesn't care about seasons and (warm) water levels; it's always there. At approximately 4 mtrs x 1 mtr, it makes all kinds of retentive moves easy.

The surrounding WW is of class IV-V and offers a 40 minute trip, with the hole at the end.

How to get there

Drive out of Rotorua towards Tauranga. About 20 minutes out of Rotorua, turn at the sign 'Okere falls' and drive to the end of the road. You can drive your car to within 10 mtrs of the hole and turn the headlights on for night surfing.

Locals

Lots and lots of rafts. More foreigners than locals, but nevertheless.....
