Playspot: Austria, Salzburg area, Lofer, River Saalach, Hubertuswalze (Lofer).
What's it like
A very famous play hole with a lot of activities each year. At low water levels it's good for short play boats only. At middle water levels it becomes pretty retentive. High levels: surfing big time!
The surrounding WW III-IV-V offers a lot of other playspots. This is definitely not for beginners though; there are steeps drops and quite some undercut rocks etc.
The best time is early summer.
How to get there
On the freeway between Salzburg and Munich, take the exit Siegsdorf and then go over the Steinpaß to Lofer. The wave is behind hotel Hubertus (next to the Shell gas station). Use the big parking place at the Tourist Office.
There is a huge camping place about 1 kilometer upstream. Beautiful sceneray, lots of space. Check out their website for details.
