Hi Guys,

Am planning to do my working OE (Oversea Experience; something all kiwis have a habit of doing) and looking at spending a fair amount of time in the Netherlands around this time next year.

Wondering if anyone can give me ideas of where I should base myself over this time to do some paddling (park and play, whitewater runs or surfing), the catch is I will need to do some work during this time and as I am a graphic designer would like to be in a place that has lots of opportunities to work in this field. Am comfortable in big surf if it is around and also boating upto Grade 4 (NZ standards)

Dare I say it I would be pretty keen to play some canoe polo as well. Am currently in the New Zealand Mens Squad and all going to plan will be traveling back from the world champs in Canada to Europe.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Even a work offer would be great (PM me if this is, is an option).

Cheers
Jason

The best place in Holland for WW kayaking is Germany.
Katwijk (NL) if your into surf kayking but you need wind from the west.
Last time i checked the NL mens polo team trianed in Deventer and the womens polo team in Amersfoort bolth are good polo & WW clubs.

Good Luck

katwijk is just one of the many good north sea, i live in the hague and play canoepolo here twice a week. Its next to scheveningen, which is also a quite well known surf spot. I think i average once a week on the north sea, that's about 20 mins from my place. I think if you want to combine canoepolo with surf kayaking, den haag (the hague in english) is probably the way to go. The second closest canoepolo club to the sea is in Alkmaar i think, but that's already a good 30min drive.
Drop me a pm if you want some more info :)

Deventer will be better for your polo but not that goord for work I think.

Yes, the best place for whitewater is Germany, and sometimes Belgium (Wallonia).
So I guess the best place to live (for whitewater) would be Maastricht, but that's quite a drive away from the sea. About polo I don't know anything.
