Didn't find anything on that in KayakSession online...
There have been talks of damming the river for quite a few years. At some point they ran into corruption charges and the investors pulled out (I think...), though it is allways in the air. If it happend - deffinetely a bummer. The rapids will not be any close to the kayaking heaven they are today (if any at all) :( :( :(

Will still take a while though. Of that you can be certain. They're working on "Africa' time. The project has been on hold since 2002. [/color:a8dee96f9b]

Adrian, that much is true but construction is now set to begin at the end of the year.
It's so sad, all the major rapids will be drowned. It may take them a long time to complete (funds, environment, etc) though. I plan to still go up next year though.
Book your air tickets now.

Big air and good lines

im just back from there and theres no sign of anything starting anytime soon(as in next couple of years)
they have the site sorted..below silverback if any of yee know it..seemenly alot of money has gone missing and as someone already said its on africa time so it will take a while..should be safe enough for another 3/4 years..even when they start building it will take a few years to get to a stage when the dam will take effect.

Hey, Karl,
Hope U R right. Though your version sounds a lot like what I know from 5 years back - the money missing and stuff. So, either it happend AGAIN (hopefully) or U heard the old news and there is something new happening. Anyway...
How was your trip? What R the waterlevels like? I've been hearing aobut VERY low water, much lower the I've ever seen there...
PLS - some info, which spots R working well? Give me names - I should know most of them (exept the new ones that formed).
Cheers, Dima.
