Urge Topic Author Offline Platinum Member Posts: 760 Thank you received: 0	I am planning on a surf kayak month or so in South Africa. what is the best time to come and play? will be bringing my surf kayak but if any rivers are up would love to paddle some of those too if some one could hook me up with a river boat (ad ) All advice welcome as are people to hook up with Happy paddlin Chris

I bought mine ages ago. There will always be good surf any time of the year, that will just govern where you'll be going.

Summer has rain in most areas in South Africa and Natal and also good swell on the north coast. Winter has rain only in the Southern Cape and also good swell there. So wherever you go, you'll be able to get good surf and also some rivers, maybe. Cape Town can get massive swell in winter, observe:

Feeling that brave? That spot only works on big swell and is near Hout Bay, off Sentinal. I don't think it's been kayaked, yet.

In summer the water is warmer. If I were you, I'd come down right now, within the next week. Just in time for some creeking at the Thrombi X-Fest 15/16 Feb.

Jan-March best for Natal and many other provinces' rivers. July/August only, best for Cape Rivers. There season is very short and highly rain dependant in the Cape.

At the moment, I stay 15 minutes from the airport, what's the problem then? :-)

Got plenty of boats too.
