joburg was hit by a huge thunderstorm yesterday which actually killed three people - two were struck by lightning, and another was killed when a huge bluegum tree fell onto his car.

the strom was caused by a cut-off low pressure sweeping across the country. the southern parts like the cape provence was hit the worst, with many coastal towns flooded.

i took these pics in joburg yesterday.

here you can clearly see all the eddies washed out. i contemplated paddling it, but my fiancee talked me out of it. in the 10 minutes directly afterwards the river rose by another 1m. then i was glad not to be on the river by myself.

the photo is deceiving.
it is much bigger than it looks - the water is actually dropping about 2m here, and the river is as wide as the lenght of a tennis court.

the hole at the bottom is a keeper!

Not really destroyed, just under a little water. ;-) I wonder if we'll get any rain this year in Plett. There are some interesting creeks around there. N2 story:
