Hi
I recently purchased a Dagger Alchemy 14L. My wife tried it first and said she thought it
wanted to go right with the skeg deployed. I tried it and found it had a tendency to go right.
I thought maybe the wind and tide might be the culprit, so tried again a couple of days later with low wind and a slack tide. It always glides to the right, and seems to require sweep strokes on the right to hold a straight track. I looked all over and the only thing I can find is the skeg appears slightly bent. I've attached a couple of photos to show the bend. The bend is certainly in the right direction to cause a right turn (so to speak).
The kayak is under warranty, but the shop I bought it from is waiting for Daggers response.
I would be very interested in anyones opinion on whether this skeg bend is likely to be the
culprit. I tried the Alchemy at another shop before choosing it, and that one ran like a
plumb line with the skeg down. Unfortunately the shop could not get one to sell until end of July.
I can't find if Dagger can supply skeg parts. It seems a skeg change would be less hassle
than sending the whole kayak back assuming Dagger give that option under the warranty.
Thanks for any replies
Phil
