Jul 18 Social Instagram @kokatatusa Presents the 2019 Whitewater Awards Expedition of the Year! @benstookesberry is at it again for Expdedition of the Year this time with his Team Picnic crew @eboomer and @nourianewman for their First Descent adventures in the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming, USA. 'Erik Boomer, Nouria Newman, and Ben Stookesberry pushed the envelope of steep Rocky Mountain Expedition Kayaking in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming with first descents of two of the Ranges largest drainages in Big Goose Creek and the mighty and long sought after Box Canyon of the Tongue River. In both cases the team packed for multiple nights on extremely steep rivers Isolated by Canyon Walls in this eastern most front of the Rocky Mountains. Although there was some portaging what was most impressive was the nearly 6000 vertical feet of gradient that they paddled including monster slides and falls. These rivers existing right under the noses of several generations of paddling crews in the western USA further exhibits the audacity and high level of kayaking required to make these descents. In contrast to other rivers that our unexplored do to their remoteness and inaccessibility, these rivers with roads literally leading to their put-ins have begged the question for decades that only now has been answered by a crew calling themselves #teampicnic @gopro @nrsweb @redbull @toyotausa #whitewaterawards #kokatat #expeditionoftheyear #MostStoutExpeditions #acrosstheglobe #savageoperators
