I've surfed a few surf craft in my time but I've never had such a great
first session as when I recently paddled the Mega Maverick.
With its
classic highly rocked bow it was no trouble at all to paddle out through the
breaking surf skimming up and over the biggest white wave faces with ease.
Once out beyond the break the Maverick was quick to move about in, this
kayak maintains good boat speed essential in the surfing environment.
But the best features come out during the ride. Starting with an amazingly
easy take off, due to its relatively wide tail, followed by incredible speed
down the face and the ability for this kayak to carve fantastically sharp
bottom turns. This kayak has some great design features including three
well positioned fins, a sharp rail from the centre of the boat all the way
to the tail and a beautifully rigid and wide hull which gives this kayak all
the speed and stability you could wish for.
This is a versatile surf kayak suitable for all sizes and abilities, if you
surf once a year or every day you should try this boat out, you'll be
amazed.

Mega Maverick - grab a bargain
About myself
Avid surf kayaker - in playboats mainly untill now, have previously paddled a riot Boogie.About the test environment
Llangenith Beach, lovely sunny November day, clean wave with a 3 to 4 foot faceReview
First thing you will notice is the weight of the boat or lack of it i should say, carrying the boat can be a little unbalanced but with a finger hole cut out of the centre pillar this becomes a much easier task. the centre pillar can also be cut out and altered to allow more room for the feet. The back band tends to sit a little low and has been refered to as a bum strap on other paddling forums. one real critisism is that the grap/security bars are too close to the deck of the boat. Once in the water on the paddle out i noticed how much easier this boat paddled out through the white water than the Riot boogie i once owned which tended to tip me over backwards. The first ride had both my paddling partner and i both laughing out loud the take off was effortless and at how responsive this boat is to mere movements of the hips, these were transmitted to the rails instantly, the speed on the wave was so noticeable both of us drew jealous glances from the hoards of board surfers just sat there soaking their legs in cold water as they do, and it rolls like a dream in case you wondered. Conclusion
If you feel the need to get in the surf every week or once in awhile then dont hesitate to spend your money on a Maverick, and if you've never paddled a surf kayak before they take a bit of getting used too, particularly keeping your balance so stick at it, it will get a silly grin on your face.Review
