Heading to Islamorada, just west of Key Largo, for a wedding soon.  Anybody got recommendations for must-see/must-do kind of stuff down there?

TIA   :smt001

That's funny, I gotta go to Miami mid March for a wedding too. I haven't been down there in over 40 years.

I was planning on doing the John Pennekamp State Park snorkeling tour - I did it a couple of times as a kid and it's still very reasonable. You can also rent canoes and kayaks to explore the mangroves there.

I was also thinking of doing a 1/2 day Peacock Bass trip in the local canals and lakes. It's a lot more expensive but kind of a bucket list fish for me.
As a kid I did catch a couple of exotic Cichlid species in a Miami canal on a trip down there.

But I bet there are lot more fishing/snorkeling options in Islamorada.

Not sure of the seasonality, byt when I was there in June (many years ago) The cuda were very easy to catch from shore.  Lots of fun!

Non fishing adventure. Check out the Theater of the sea in Islamorada and swim with the Dolphins and get a dolphin ride.

Back to fishing. If driving down when see a dive shop stop and get a map of the ship wrecks they dive on Great fishing spots

There is a kayak fishing group in Florida. search and send them a e mail and get info on Local kayak fishing etc . ask ifyou can join them during your dates

We go to Florida once or twice a year to visit my Father in law on the central East coast, but my wife grew up in Key West so we try and get down there every few years.

Diving for or bully netting lobster if you can get on a boat. I believe the season ends at the end of March, but there's a mini season in July before it reopens on August.

If you wanna try something different, go kill iguanas. They're super invasive, you see em everywhere.

The key deer are pretty cool to see.

Plus one for John PenneKamp snorkling.

If you're into birds at all, swing by the bird sanctuary

Touristy, but feeding the tarpon at Robbies is pretty fun.

A little farther down from IM but not all the way to Key West cool local marina. Good food and drinks, and they rent kayaks. You can catch smaller mangrove snapper near the launch, especially around sunset. Might be some snook lurking around too, fun to catch pitching lures at the edge the mangroves.

If you get down to Key West but don't want to get jammed up in town doing touristy stuff, the Botanical garden is worth a visit.

And stop here for a Cuban mix, cafe con leche and croquetas on your way. Just order at the register with the rest of the locals and take em to go.

If you're driving down from Miami, stop in here on the way. Great place to grab some Florida centric gifts, hot sauces, honey, jams and jellies and really unique fresh fruits. Don't forget to grab a fruit shake for the road.
