Sea Kayaking, Whitewater, Climbing, Suffering and Love: Check out New Erik Boomer Baffin Vid!

We know Valentine’s Day has passed, but that doesn’t mean you have to write off romantic sufferfests for the year. Or maybe, not so romantic, depending on your interpretation—which is solely up to the beholder.

When it comes to taking trips into the boondocks, that beholder is Erik Boomer, as well as his partner, Sarah McNair-Landry. Last year they took off on a 45-day sea kayaking and climbing trip together to Baffin Island, working through the ins and out of a relationship while piecing together the ins and outs of paddling narrow passages through Arctic ice, climbing remote granite faces, and running first descents of some of the islands raging whitewater. They chronicled the trip in a short film of the expedition, tapping Rush Sturges as Executive Producer.

We caught up with Boomer for a few thoughts on the mambo combo expedition:

PL: How was the trip overall and how much paddling did you do?
It was a dream trip for us, we got to do all the things we loved in the most spectacular landscape you could imagine.
PL: Was it romantic at all, or too burly?
It was burly and tiring but, with all the filming and photography it gave us a chance to slow down and smell the roses and not just be focused on charging. But, we did plenty of charging and suffering, for sure.
PL: Any advice for others looking to take a trip with their loved one?
One thing that is really great for us is recognizing each other’s strengths and weaknesses and supporting one another. Between skiing, filming, climbing, photography and kayaking we could always find something to focus on to keep us psyched!
