We catch a lot more than crabs in our pots and rings... what's the strangest thing you've pulled up?

Yesterday I came up with several small California halibut, around 8" long, and this monster Buffalo Sculpin. Don't think I've ever seen one of those before. This one had a huge full belly - I wonder how many crabs he had just eaten... there weren't any left in the ring!

Wow.. crazy fish. I saw someone at the pier the other day bringing in a 3ft long shark. Not sure if it was a ring or a pot

Not weird, but I have pulled up a seal.  Half way up, I thought I hit it big as it was heavy, the wife looked over and informed me that I was unlucky.  :smt005

When I was a kid I use to use those pyramid traps and one time off Newport Pier I brought up an octopus, it was hanging by one tentacle.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

It's weird how they will sometimes hang on instead of escaping. I've heard of them filling a trap with eggs, too.

Florence, Oregon I was a kid crabbing with my grandpa and my brother, we pulled up a diver who’s arm got lodged in the trap as we started to pull it. It was from the south jetty pier and unfortunately for him, the state trooper/ game warden was on site checking licenses, the guy had a bunch of small crabs in his bag so he got sighted for that and a long talking to about reaching into other peoples traps.

I got that same fish in a hoop net at Doran this week.  Is this also known as a Sculpin?
