Pat.R mount works on Scotty mount only.
Railblaza works on Railblaza mount only.

So pick your system.

I started off with Railblazas for the rod holders on the aka, and then added PatR mounts for the downriggers.
Both are great. If you want to run a downrigger off the aka, you pretty much need a Scotty mount for a Lake Troller and PatR makes the aka-to-Scotty adapter.

I realize this is a little off topic from your post, but I'm a new member & don't see any option for me to make a new post or start a new topic.
I'm trying to get info to contact Pat R. so I can order some Scotty cross bar mounts to mount an outboard motor on my Hobie A.I.
It would be much appreciated if someone would post the info or send me a p.m.

Very curious to see how you end up mounting it. I have about 20 hrs on one I made one out of wood and am pretty satisfied. It clamps over the aka, happy to describe if you have access to a wood lathe and forstner bits.

I don’t have tramps, which might work just as well. But I like to be able to fold in the amas on the water (better for landing a big fish, necessary to right a capsized boat, etc.). I’m planning to build haka benches, and the design I have in mind will retain fold-ability, so I’ll keep the safety ropes, even with the benches.

I would be curious how you build it and see them when you're done. I've looked at spine boards but either it's pricey or something else.

I opted for just a storage rack (for lack of a better term). It's just PVC tubing with some bungee cords. So its too flexible to use as a bench, but does add a lot of storage and it stays out of the way when folded. I think I could make it out of aluminum tubing and it would be lightweight and plenty strong to sit on.

I'll try to remember to post pictures tomorrow...

FWIW, in case it helps:

- I'm using Pat's mounts for XBar RAM mounts (FF) and AKA Scotty mounts (downrigger, rod holders) and highly recommend. AKA mounts also serve as stoppers for HAKA, to limit horizontal movements. (I used to have railblaza on previous AI, they were fine if you prefer railblaza over scotty) .

- I broke my share of shear pins, always have several spares. Also bring spare rudder pin.

As I guess most of us, I'm running my TI in different configurations.

- When I'm sailing in high wind or to bring kids along, I install HAKA (spineboards). They sit over tramps, rear tightly fit b/w Pat's mounts and I use straps/ropes to secure them.
Downside is that this setup becomes rigid, so if I hit something I expect damage.
FWIW, first shear pin I broke was when I tied AI to the tree by the old pier @ HMB. By the AKA. With no wind and almost no surf.

- For fishing I don't install HAKA, and only use one tramp (if I did not have tramps I would use HAKA). I fish on the other side and fold AKA quickly to land (large) fish. In general I feel tramps are not necessary and HAKA are more useful, but since I already have them...

I too would be very interested in a foldable AKA w/ HAKA setup. I've seen report of only one prototype @ hobie's forum, from several years ago, with mixed results. It probably would work fine for cargo, but since I'm throwing 240 lbs on them it would have to be pretty solid.

i need to spend some time to "harden" my AI soon, esp since i enjoy sailing it more that fishing from it, lol.

one thing i found out is with my behind the seat PatR mounts, the hobie livewell doesn't fit since it no longer lines up with the scuppers. turning the mounts up leaves little room for reclining the seat.

oh, when sailing can't use the plano box rod holders. the molded in ones work when sail is deployed... barely (just make sure no hooks catch the sail).

i miss my OB square hatch for tackle storage...

If I'm not fishing under sail I always put my rods down on tramps / HAKA. If trolling under sail (which I still feel somewhat tricky) - rod is in far AKA-mounted rod holder.

Also, just learned couple of days ago, that TI vs. AI adds some challenges, at least for me:
- larger sail makes it more difficult to deal with rods while fishing under sail
- front cockpit seems to be a bit shorter than rear - but enough to make long peddling uncomfortable (I'm 6'5"). On the other hand, fishing from the rear seat takes away tramp space, and when sailing from the rear (solo) you can't hike. I guess I need to find a fishing partner for my tandem :)

While I initially wanted to install Pat's mounts on xbar it was a no-go for me b/c of legroom. So instead I opted for AKA mounts, and they work very well.

For the trunk area - it's much smaller on TI vs AI. Plano box did not work for me, I managed to fit milk crate, but then opted for a soft-sided no-zipper cooler with plastic insert, which I use for tackle.

Hobie makes a cool looking pack that hands off the seat backs.

Do you have a link to that? I've rigged a DIY mesh bag that hangs off the back of the seat on my AI. I mostly use it to carry food and other stuff that I want to keep out of the fish goo. I'm thinking that the official Hobie version might be a nice upgrade...

I swear to god, Hobie stole my idea.
I first start attaching a bag I got from a project because all my food is getting splash when gunning from spot to spot.
I should have patent it. lol

Looks nice, and a reasonable price, by Hobie standards. But, I can't tell from the picture how it attaches to the seat. I've got the old fashioned (pre-vantage) seat, modified somewhat (of course...), so I think it'll work, but would like to be sure...

Been using a Jackson Kayak one on my OB for 4 years now (got the idea from Naoaki).  Not as big, but handy for extra space since I don't have a square hatch on the AI :(

(I bought one for my wife)  It has 4 vertically oriented straps that are positioned for the top and middle plastic ribs on the CT seats.

This is a tough call. In truth, I can get most things, like my lunch, down the hatch under my legs, but she asked for something like this and is now having 2nd thoughts. On the other hand, there is so very little convenient storage on a Hobie kayak, especially the Revo’s, especially when we’re fishing.
