Ok, so the board has talked me into going for crabs in the ocean.  My last time in  bay SF Bay I forgot I was in a kayak  (I'm a senior) and leaned over to grab something behind me and had to tread water.  Leaned too far.  Took awhile to right the kayak and get back in.  So I just made some nice stabilizers out of pvc for my kayak.
My question-- I assume that I should set them to ride just above the water so I can paddle the kayak cleanly, or should they ride in the top inch or so.  I haven't set the final level yet with the pvc cement.  Your thoughts?  Just above the water or an inch or so below?
Thanks,

Just like training wheels, keep em up and out of the water but close enough that a little leaning will put them to work.  You dont want extra drag.

I use Hobie Sidekick and it has three different height settings.  I always put on the highest setting to avoid drag increase.
Sidekick is very useful for crabbing and lobster hoopnetting.

It’s a lot less likely that you’re kayak will tip over with such stabilizers, but still possible. So you want to have a plan for how you’d right the ship, should the need arise...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I've made the stablizers already.  Used 4 inch pvc.  Didn't like the angle so I added a 45 degree fitting to raise the angle.
