LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A woman is in custody after she stopped her car in the middle of Interstate 5 and fought with a state trooper when he tried to pull her over for speeding, the Washington State Patrol reports.

The incident unfolded at about 11 a.m. when the woman's car sped past the trooper going at least 80 mph in the southbound lanes of I-5 just south of 196th Street SW in Lynnwood, said Heather Axtman of the State Patrol.

The trooper activated his lights and siren to pull the woman over for speeding. Instead, she stopped her car in the middle of I-5 and refused to pull over to the side of the freeway.

The woman then became agitated and a fight ensued. The trooper took her into custody for investigation of obstruction of justice, Axtman said.

The woman sustained minor lacerations during the fight and is being evaluated. The trooper was not injured.

The right lane was blocked at the scene during and immediately after the incident, but has since reopened.
