Troopers: Fairbanks man kayaking on Chena River reported as overdue

Alaska State Troopers said Monday that a Fairbanks man last seen kayaking on the Chena River Thursday has been reported as overdue from his trip.

Troopers are now asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of the missing kayaker, 36-year-old Sean Murphy, to give them a call.

Murphy was reported overdue on Monday morning, having left Fairbanks last week from the Chena River access point at Chena Small Tracts Road, troopers said in a dispatch.

"His destination and route are unknown," the dispatch said, though troopers reported Murphy is believed to have continued on the Tanana River.

Murphy was aboard a red, single-seat kayak, troopers said.

Troopers described him as a white man, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with short to medium length hair and "stubble."
