Every now and then, something really new and exciting pokes its head up in the world of whitewater. This is one of those times.

As Standup paddleboarding takes off in the world of ocean surfing, so a few adventurous SUP paddlers who are also whitewater paddlers began to experiment with this on rivers. And they all had one thing in common to say: “This is really fun!”

The problem until now has been that Epoxy SUP’s designed for ocean waves were both the wrong shape for river running, and too weak to withstand the abuse that rivers deal out. The logical solution was what kayaking has known for years - a plastic shell on a shape designed specifically for river running.

The Cayuco has a rocker curve, bow volume, rail shape and sidewall shape that look and function like a river running kayak. The bottom concaves, outline and tail shape are closer to an ocean surfing SUP. This board really is a perfect synthesis of the two schools of thought brought together for the end goal of making whitewater river running fun.

Then we’ve added a few extra little things. A deep foot area recess and sidewalls lower your center of gravity increasing stability, while at the same time giving you a “lip” for your feet to wedge against for extra control. A drop down rubberized skeg adds tracking in flatter sections, and end grab handles are added for ease and safety.
